One of my highlights of 2006 was the trip to the Mekong delta in Vietnam to see the preschool that I helped fund through Room to Read with a group of friends in Chicago. The two room school opened in February 2006 in Vinh Yen Hamlet, near Tra Vinh town which is surrounded by rice paddies and Kmer style Buddhist temples.

I was welcomed by 30 or more of the 3-5 year old students all in their blue and white uniforms with songs and flowers. Most had not seen many Americans. It was a wonderful and moving experience to see how happy they were and how appreciative the teachers and parents were of our efforts. We really made a difference! Hope you will consider getting involved in Room to Read. I hope to help fund a second school in South Africa in 2007.
